The covid-19 tests will allow you to be one step ahead in protecting your loved ones, detecting this virus in time could save your life. There are 2 types of tests, diagnostic tests and antibody tests. At the O2 Medical Network clinic we perform diagnostic tests which are divided into 2 forms, rapid tests and molecular tests.

Molecular Test

Molecular tests detect the genetic material of the virus (RNA), i.e. the virus itself. Samples are obtained from nasal mucosa or saliva taken from patients in the first seven days of infection.

It is important that this test is performed when there is a higher viral load in the entire nose and throat area. After the first week, the amount of virus decreases and the molecular test is no longer effective at that time.

Rapid Test

Rapid tests or antigen tests are based on antigens that detect the virus, but unlike molecular tests. This test does not look for the genetic material, but identifies the proteins found on the outside.

Although these often very simple tests can provide faster results than many molecular tests. They can often become less accurate, they may need confirmation of an additional diagnostic test.
